Are you looking to escape New York City for a long weekend this spring/summer?
There are three places that are a great fit when you factor in Location, Transportation, Cost & Convenience.
1. Bermuda – the closest destination of the 3 destinations with direct flights and only a quick 2 hour flight time. Bermuda is a great spot for Golf, Spa and Pink Sand Beaches. Given it’s proximity to NYC, the weather is the more spotty out of the 3 recommendations. Flights are affordable, hotels and eating is a little more expensive!
2. Turks and Caicos – Providenciales in Turks and Caicos is also about 3 hours and 30 minutes direct flight from JFK with 2 airlines flying each day. The beaches are beautiful, the food is great and its the perfect escape from the big city bustle. With only a few days to enjoy the island I recommend Grace Bay beach for hotel choices. The Venetian on Grace Bay is one great hotel choice along with the Tuscany and The Regent Grand. If you are golfer the Regent Grand comes with free golf so that’s always a great bonus.
3. Bahamas – Nassau is only 3.5 hours from NYC and the Atlantis is a great long weekend spot for any family. Once you enter the property you don’t need to leave until your flight out. There is so much to do and so much to see. Your kids will stay entertained in the water-park, exploring the aquariums and swimming in the multiple pools. Without kids, check out the Cove at the Atlantis for an adults-only experience for a relaxing long weekend in the Caribbean. Keep in mind the Atlantis is not the quiet getaway but for those looking for action.
For a bonus long weekend destination:
Check out the W Retreat and Spa on Vieques Island which is located 8 miles off the coast of Puerto Rico. It does require an additional 20 minute flight from San Juan airport but once you arrive it will be worth that extra stop. For the cost this is a great option when comparing it to other 5 star hotels in the Caribbean, food is NYC prices but that is expected at such a nice resort. If you are a Starwood traveler for work this is a no brainer and a great opportunity to cash in on points and enjoy your status perks. This is not only a couples resort as children are welcomed, there are a few adult only sections which is great for some quiet relaxation.
