The French Polynesian islands are composed of 118 dispersed islands and atolls covering over 1200 miles in the South Pacific. The most popular islands are part of the Society Islands and Pape’ete in Tahiti is the capital of the collectivity. The only international airport is located in Tahiti, Faaa International Airport. Most overseas travelers will need to connect in Faaa before catching a local flight on Air Tahiti. In French Polynesia, French is the only official language of the islands and Christianity is the main religion. The five main honeymoon island destinations of French Polynesia are Tahiti, Moorea, Huahine, Bora Bora and Maupiti. Keep in mind food prices are extremely high on these islands especially in resort locations due to stiff duties, it is recommended to bring as many snacks as possible and to pick up a few things from the local grocery stores. At the resorts drinks can be as expensive as $30 per cocktail.
